Almost there. Windows will want a second look.

When you open the installer, Windows will probably warn you that it doesn’t recognise the app. Here’s what you’ll see and exactly where to click. It takes about three clicks.

ShakeNote_1.0.0_x64-setup.exe[FILE SIZE]Didn’t start? Download again

why the warning? ShakeNote is made by one person, and I haven’t bought a code-signing certificate yet. so Windows doesn’t recognise me as a publisher. it’s asking who made the app, not flagging what’s inside it. — Ali

  1. 01

    Keep the file

If your browser says the file isn’t commonly downloaded, choose Keep. In Edge, open the … menu on the download first, then Keep and Keep anyway.

  2. 02

    Click “More info”

Open the installer. If a blue “Windows protected your PC” box appears, don’t press “Don’t run”. Click the small More info link under the message.

  3. 03

    Click “Run anyway”

You’ll see the file name and “Unknown publisher”. That’s the missing certificate. Click Run anyway and the installer opens as normal.

Rather skip the warnings?

The Microsoft Store version is the same app, signed by Microsoft, so it installs without any of the prompts above.

Then just shake.

ShakeNote starts in your system tray and a short welcome shows you around. Shake your mouse side to side anywhere, type a thought, press Esc.
